LOUISVILLE, KY – The YMCA of Greater Louisville will be participating for the second year in the international World’s Largest Swim Lesson on Tuesday, June 18. Joining forces with YMCAs across the country and other similar facilities around the globe, the goal is to hold a simultaneous swim lesson to promote and encourage the importance of swimming and water safety.

LOUISVILLE, KY - Social service providers and civic leaders today marked the completion of a grant that will help add financial empowerment to services provided to Louisville’s most at-risk residents including the homeless. Through the $164,000 Living Cities grant, awarded to Louisville Metro Community Services and Revitalization (CSR), 13 homeless service agencies helped develop tools and resources that will increase access to financial education and empowerment opportunities for Louisville’s most vulnerable citizens.

LOUISVILLE, KY - Studio E: The Art Therapy Program is being offered for the second time for people with epilepsy in Kentucky and southern Indiana. Offered by Epilepsy Foundation affiliates across the country, Studio E empowers people with epilepsy to creatively express feelings related to epilepsy and connect with one another in a safe environment. As a result, the program yields beautiful and meaningful works of art that educate both others with epilepsy and the general public.

LOUISVILLE, KY - Imagine being a teenager and spending an entire school year in a foreign country.
It may sound intimidating but staff at the national Education First Foundation (EFF) for Foreign Study and Bullitt East High School makes every effort to provide a nurturing environment for foreign exchange students.
Bullitt East was recognized for those efforts with the 2012-2013 Global Education Excellence Award from the EFF. The school hosted 10 exchange students: Elsa Holmgren, Johanna Nilsson and Axel Oehman from Sweden; Joost Stekelenburg from the Netherlands; Stine Mathisen and Lene Litshien from Norway; Silvana Benanti and Claudio Benedetti from Italy; and Christine Heck and Felix Gaschler from Germany.
This the first time a high school in Bullitt County has earned the honor.

LOUISVILLE, KY  – Governor Steve Beshear today joined local and company officials to announce Gazelle Inc., the nation’s leading consumer electronics trade-in site, plans to establish a 37,500-square-foot processing center on Global Drive in Louisville’s Jefferson Riverport area. The company plans to create 438 new jobs and invest $22.3 million in the Commonwealth over the next several years.

“Gazelle saw a consumer need a few years ago and has worked to fill that void, and that is what a great business is all about,” said Gov. Beshear. “The company has paid out more than $100 million for used consumer electronic devices and is growing more than 100 percent year over year. That shows the type of growth and success that will drive their 438 jobs and $22.3 million investment, and we couldn’t be happier they’ve decided to invest here in Louisville.”
