Hobbs named Academic All-American | Sports & Recreation

LOUISVILLE, KY - Bellarmine University senior Braydon Hobbs has been named to the 15-member 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Basketball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). 

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Hobbs earned 2nd team honors, the highest ever for a Bellarmine men's basketball player.  The New Albany, Ind., native is a senior criminal justice major with a 3.53 grade point average and destined to go down as one of the greatest players in Bellarmine history.  To date, Hobbs has led Bellarmine to 105 victories—including the National Championship and 2 GLVC Titles—in 125 games played.

Already the career record holder in games played (125), games started (125), assists (682), steals (201), and 3-pointers made (261), Hobbs currently ranks 10th on Bellarmine's all-time scoring list with 1,563 points. 

Hobbs was named a 2012 preseason All-American by Basketball Times and named to the “Super 16” by DII Bulletin.  He is a 3-time All-GLVC performer and was named the Freshman of the Year in the conference as well as being named to the national All-Freshman team by Basketball Times. Last season, he earned honorable mention All-America honors from DII Bulletin and earned Most Outstanding Player in last year's NCAA Midwest Regional.  Hobbs also has ranked among the nation's top 10 in assists to turnover ratio all four years of his career.

With his election to the Academic All-America team, Hobbs joins Tom Schurfranz (1992, 3rd Team), Ronald Brooks (2001, 3rd Team), and Brad Ayer (2003, Hon. Ment.) as the only Bellarmine men's basketball players to earn the honor.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
